Trade Deadline Whos?
Another year where nobody knows who will go and who will stay... Quiet on the front.
As I write this it's a little after 2:30 on Sunday July 30th. We're all waiting to see what Chaim Bloom has in store for this Red Sox roster. Most of us are hoping that he can get this team some much needed pitching help considering we have been using openers for the last several weeks, while a legit starting pitcher Nick Pivetta sits in our bullpen.
It makes you wonder what this team is thinking and it's another year where we really have no idea what to expect, who will be dealt and what it will cost. Rumors are saying that Duvall could be dealt we've even heard rumblings that Verdugo could also be on the move. The Red Sox do also love trade deadline acquisitions that they don't have to actually make. For instance Story is on the way back we could see him as early as the upcoming Blue Jays series. We could possibly see Sale, Houck and Whitlock as well before seasons end. We don't really have a timetable on the last three guys but this could be all they need to excuse themselves from this deadline and not make any moves at all. Bloom plays his cards close to his chest and we probably won't know much until it's upon us. The trade deadline falls on August 1st. I myself have no idea what we will get or not get before tomorrow, there honestly hasn't been much chatter about what bloom is particularly looking for.
All I know is that if he and the front office stand Pat and do nothing, this team will feel like the organization doesn't believe in them winning and it will most certainly hurt the morale of all the players, the staff, and it will definitely piss off the fans. Who's packing their bags? Who will we acquire ? Nobody knows.. I don't even think the front office does. Just a typical Red Sox trade deadline nothing to see here guys.
What do you guys think? Will Chaim bloom make a splash before the trade deadline comes to an end or will he cause another rift in the clubhouse by either making the wrong moves or no moves at all. We'll just have to wait until tomorrow to see what the outcome is. I'm sure we'll all be on pins and needles waiting for the news or lack thereof.m
Update 3:30 PM the trade deadline looms and we still haven't heard anything from the Red Sox, we haven't even heard them in an any of the rumors. Chaim Bloom must be sleeping in for this one because we're less than 3 hours away from the trade deadline ending and the Red Sox as of right now empty handed. Not even a peep or a rumor, I watched three days of MLB network coverage on the deadline and they haven’t mentioned this team ONCE. They must know what’s going on because we the fans really have no idea. I think it's safe to say that standing pat at this deadline will ultimately blow up in this ownership’s face. Relying on Story, Sale, Whitlock and Houck to come back and fill the void that is left on this team is not only risky but far sighted as all of these players are coming back from injuries. They are highly likely to suffer another setback and that leaves you without reinforcements. If Chaim Bloom and this ownership group decides to do NOTHING, like I said before there will be a mutiny in the clubhouse. The staff including Cora will not be happy and you will most likely start to see the effects immediately as the team is already on a skid. I hope that I am wrong, I hope that Bloom has something up his sleeve because if at deadline close we haven’t acquired a single player. I just can't envision this team being good enough or sustainable to make it to the end of the season in a position to succeed.
